How to become polyglot in Cuba?

Hi everyone~ My name’s Dana. I’m 20 years old and I’m in my 3rd year of collage. I study at the Foreign Language Faculty, known as FLEX, of Havana University. I study a degree in Russian and Japanese Language. However, I keep the study by my own of other languages that I like such as: Korean, Chinese, Thai, Greek, Turkish and Portuguese. I really like different cultures and I really enjoy meeting new ones. I would like to travel and experience them for myself and meet many people, listening and sharing their opinions. I’d love to be part of “A song for you” program ….
What inspired you to become a polyglot?
1. If you ask me about my inspiration… it’s difficult to answer with just one word or a sentence! I think I should tell you a little about my dreams and goals. Since I was a kid, I’ve loved to watch movies and music videos from other countries in different languages (mainly English) and I really wanted to know what they said without having to read the subtitles. I used to imitated everything they said without knowing its meaning…..
In conclusion, I can say that if I study different foreign languages, it is because I love them!!! I love their diversity … I like to know and learn their characteristics, what makes them that unique and special. It’s my dream to be able to communicate and make other people understand each other, in as many languages as possible. It’s like being able to talk to the world without barriers. It’s kinda plain to say this, but this is how I feel….! ^_^
Why is language learning important?
2. The importance lies in the benefits it offers you. It gives you ease and comfort. It makes you free and independent. It’s one of your tools for your daily work and life. As people say: “knowledge is power, it’s pleasure….” because that’s what allows you to develop freely without depending on other media to complete your task. It’s the key to communication, and as we know communication depends on our development and evolution..!
As a Cuban person. How was your experience looking for resources and learning in a more enjoyable way?
3. As a Cuban student of foreign languages my challenge was to find an efficient way to learn them. I study at Flex… and our faculty provides us with the tools for learning in the most didactic way. However, I think that is not enough. Why? Because learning a foreign language requires a lot of verbal practice. You must speak it and hear it from native people. Although my teachers are native speakers, sometimes the topics of conversation are limited to those required by the educational program. As a future professional and young person, I’m always in search of different subjects and topics from my personal tates. For that reason I’ve used social networks to communicate with foreign friends.
What tips do you have for language learning?
4. Since we don’t live in the linguistic environment, it’s important to be surrounded by elements that make you think about the language you study… Can be music videos, movies or books. You must always be active and systematic with the study. Since the language is changing and evolving … we must evolve along with it!
